Women's suffrage in Asia

Sinopse

"This book explores the gendered histories of democracy, governance and citizenship is Asia within the context of the global women's suffrage movement. The book analyses women's experiences of politics and their negotiations for greater access to power and representation. It explains why the history of suffrage is neglected in the various nationalist historiographies and untangles the connections between culture, religion, nationalism and colonialism in the context of women's struggles for democratic rights."--Jacket.
